Audience: People who are stuck and may be seeing their problem from one or a limited number of perspectives.
Suggested Time: 5 to 10 minutes.
If you are in a hurry or short on resources, it is good to have a quick technique up your sleeve. This is useful if people have a problem that seems intractable, or to deflect potential conflict, or even as an ice-breaker. This approach encourages the important value of 'empathy', while being a useful method for solving problems.
The approach is to ask people to see something from the perspective of someone else. Here are a few ideas to get your started:
- How would you see the situation/act if you were a twitcher?
- Or a 'roadie' with a rock band?
- Or a telecommunications engineer?
- Or a sculptor?
- Or a scout leader?
- Or your Mum?
- Or a script writer?
- Or a sheriff in the wild west?
- Or your grade 4 teacher?
If you have some other 'perspectives', please add a Comment.
